Google Play Publishing Readiness
Last updated: August 26, 2026
Google Play readiness note: Play Console requirements vary by app features, audience, permissions, monetization and account type. Use this checklist together with the current Google Play policies and the app's actual behavior.
Core requirements to prepare
- Privacy Policy: Publish a publicly accessible, non-PDF privacy policy URL and link it in Play Console and, where required, inside the app.
- Data Safety: Complete the Data safety form accurately for each app, including data collected/shared by third-party SDKs.
- Account deletion: If the app allows account creation, provide an in-app deletion path and an external web deletion resource.
- Target API: For new Android apps and app updates, Android 16 / API 36 is required starting August 31, 2026, subject to platform-specific exceptions.
- App access: If review requires login or restricted features, provide working demo credentials and instructions in Play Console.
- Content rating: Complete the content rating questionnaire; unrated apps are not allowed on Google Play.
- Target audience: Declare the intended audience and follow the Families policy if children are included.
- Permissions: Request only permissions needed for core functionality and complete any required declarations.
- Ads: Declare whether the app contains ads and ensure ad behavior follows Google Play policies.
- Store listing: Prepare app name, short description, full description, app icon, screenshots and other required store assets.
- Developer/account verification: Keep legal name, address, contact details and organization information accurate in Play Console.
- Testing: Complete the required testing track and review process applicable to your developer account and app.
Important
Do not copy a generic Data safety answer into every app. The correct answers depend on the exact APK/AAB, permissions, backend, SDKs, analytics, advertising, login system and user data flows used by that app.
